In Freya Najade’s personal series If You Are Lucky, You Get Old, she tell stories of the elderly people she met and spent time with in California and Portland, Oregon. What struck her was that they were not only proud of their age and of having made it this far in life, but were also still falling in love and breaking up.

They were overcoming the death of a lifetime partner, living out their erotic fantasies, or dealing with the loss of their sexual desire. Talking to them showed that inner growth is everlasting, and that people over seventy continue to love, suffer, long, dream, and have sexual feelings.
