Funfairs have long been part of British seaside culture, where rides, lights and entertainment became a central part of the traditional seaside experience. Southend-on-Sea is one of these classic seaside towns, known for its long pier, beaches, arcades and attractions. At the heart of the seafront is Adventure Island, a colourful funfair that draws families, children, teenagers and couples.

Freya has always been fascinated by British seaside towns and the slightly faded glamour that comes with them. In Southend-on-Sea, she was drawn to the funfair and the people who spend time there. She captures the atmosphere and the people who come to enjoy it, from the excitement of the rides to the quieter moments in between.
