Penumbra is based around the fringes of lighter shadow, an area of uncertainty, ambiguity, or partial understanding. This series comprises of a series of sea vessels, details and portraits from some of the ports of Sicily and the biggest arrival points of migrants into the European Union.Charities rescued many of these boats but under new rules from Italy’s right-leaning government, NGOs face fines for breaking a code of conduct. In law, the right to privacy can be considered to fall under the “penumbra” of the Constitution, meaning it’s not explicitly stated but implied through other rights.
