Royal Ascot, the first instalment of Miriam Strong’s ongoing series Sport Of Kings.

Miriam Strong started this series in the summer of 2025. After spending six months in North America, she wanted to shoot something very British, which took her down the path to Royal Ascot.

“I had no clear vision for the four-day event; I was just going to see and experience what it was like. All I knew was that I wanted to use flash, and it was going to be hot, sweltering for London anyway. When you’re at Ascot, there is definitely an essence of mayhem. You have two sections that are divided almost immediately when you depart the train: coattails go one way, and picnic baskets go another. Betting, drinking and an afterparty with all the usual singalong tunes. It’s fun and hectic.”

This will be an ongoing series exploring horse racing events, a particular space that encompasses British culture.
